Zeb decided he is going to be a chef! He didn’t waste any time:
This is one of three cookbooks he got this week. This one has the healthiest and most kid-friendly recipes. It’s his fave because of its pizza recipe:
We found out how yeast makes dough grow. It’s a single-cell organism that eats on the sugar and flour and as it eats it releases gas which is what causes the dough to “rise”. Did you catch that? We’re eating fungi farts!!! Ahahaha
Seriously, some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. He did a great job with only minimal help.
Then we made “turtle bread” and fondue, two more recipes from the same book. I realized after making it that for a family who owns two endangered desert tortoises and is shifting toward vegetarianism, we probably should have shaped this as something else. It was a bit disturbing. But tasty.
Yummy! Pancakes for dinner! He had fun with this one: This would be Chef Vader, I think.
And I made this one myself, a raw peach pie, modeled partially off of Darlene’s recipe with some improvisation where my ingredients differed:
Tonight is a vegetarian lasagna. Oh and if you’re wondering what happened to the going raw thing – we stopped. We felt so great but we both decided that I suck at cooking and life is just to short to not enjoy your food.
We’ve been meat-free the whole time though and Justin – yes! Justin! – expressed interest in staying so. He said he feels good and he’s acquiring a taste for vegetables and fruit. I almost fell off my chair! I’d actually prefer to give up cheese and sour cream (we already use vegan milk and butter) but we can’t find suitable alternatives to those things. But I’m much more anti-dairy than anti-meat right now. We just like cheese so much.

That’s so cool that Z likes to cook! Levi hates it. So it do most of it myself. Audie helps mostly on weekends.
Have you ever had veggie shreds cheese, made with soy?
Yes, veggie shreds are great. It melts well-enough. Not as good as regular cheese, but I’m unable to eat dairy and when I discovered it, it gave me so many more possibilities. I used it to make pizza and quesadillas. It doesn’t taste as good as the real thing, but one can definitely get used to it, and even enjoy it. I don’t like it as much in lasagna like dishes or mac and cheese, but again, it’s better than nothing.
I didn’t even know they made cheese made with rice milk…
What kind of vegan milk do you drink? I drink soy or almond. I’m not keen on rice milk.
I haven’t tried veggie shreds…is it any good? Does it melt? lol I’ll give it a try.
We made the mistake of trying cheese made of rice milk. So. Not. Good.
lol We do rice milk, sometimes vanilla flavored. I don’t drink it at all, except for occasionally on cereal but Z loves it.
