DNT Update #1

Wow. It’s pretty bad when I have to check my widget to see exactly what my challenges were. Explains the reason they’re challenges. Despite the fact I can’t recall my commitments, I think I’m doing well so far

Goal #1 – Time Management

Routines: I’ve been working on my morning routine this past week: wake with the sun, shower, dress, etc, make tea, head out for garden work before it’s roasting, internet/emails until Zeb wakes up, breakfast. I feel I have this part down pretty well but I’d like to remember to set out our vitamins for the day, and spend some time meditating and setting intentions with and without Zeb.

Time Wasters – Internet: I’ve cut back on some blogs in my Reader but will still click through on commenters to check their updates. I’ve eliminated some forums and groups I’m on and unsubscribed from some emails I was receiving. I’ve gone to Daily Digest on other groups. All this has cut my email time in half! I’ve minimized my time on my photog group’s forum to once a week. I’ve learned how to use the Av setting on my camera which has saved me time in editing photos. If only I could apply PW’s Actions in the camera, I’d be set. ;)

Time Wasters – Other: I’m looking into fixing my dishwasher after realizing how much time it steals to handwash. Bleh.

Things That Matter: I’ve been reading more and we’ve been making it to the library weekly. I’m not doing so well sticking to the meal plan this month because the heat has killed our appetite and my desire to heat up the kitchen. I spent some time with family this week. And Justin gave my a djembe for Mother’s Day which has infused some rhythm into our days.

Goal #2 – Harmonica

I’ve been practicing, although not quite daily, and am seeing improvement in my lung capacity already. I joined a Harp group (no emails though!) and got some great advice, tips and even some medi music with which to practice. I think I’ve mostly settled on the song “A Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles to play at the Good Vibrations conference, seeing as how the lyrics oh-so-fit the situation. But I’m still not certain since it’s not really styled for the harmonica.

Goal #3 – Decluttering

I rescued some boxes from Freecycle to pack up things we’ll give away or sell. I still need some bags to hold garage sale stuff. ……….Oh, and I made a list of what needs to be done in each room. So, much for the “Doing” on this one. :P

How’s everyone else doing?

    Sounds great!
I don’t read any email groups anymore. [grin] Could be so’s I don’t get irritated.
    Just a few blogs.

I’d love to meditate and set intentions with and w/out the babes each day.
Without getting too attached, of course. :)

  2. Good progress! What’s a djembe? Sounds exotic!

  3. Cool about the harmonica thing. Aaron’s father plays and actually has a suitcase full of 26 harps, all tuned to different keys or unique for some other reason. I wish you lots of positive vibes in learning this instrument and utilizing it as a creative outlet. :)

  4. *Stephanie, I hear ya on the irritating part if we’re talking of the same groups. ;)

*Roxie (it is Roxie right?), a djembe is an African style drum. We were introduced to them last year at the Live and Learn conference and they are so much fun to play together or in a big group. The solid brown one pictured here is the one he got me!

*Sarah, thanks!! I hope I’m good enough some day to justify having more than just one. :)

There is nothing like crossing off something on a list though is it? Well done!

  6. Mon says:

All sounding so fab. Ooh, wonder what groups you’re talking about, lol. I recently unsubscribed from one, that began really helpful and has turned out stressful. I thought, why am I reading this?! Yay on the harmonica.

I think you’re doing awesome! Those e-mail groups can be real time sucks and at the same time they can be so easy to be sucked into…

  8. Amanda says:

Oh, I LOVE this challenge! It’s so ME! LOL. I’m still working on waking up before 8. Argh. But I’m making progress on decluttering!

    What’s a djembe?

  9. Amanda says:

Oh, and you’re going to the conference!! I’ve been trying to figure out who might be going… it’s SO tempting!
