I’m Not Thinking

I joined Two Frog Home’s “Doing Not Thinking” Challenge. I could use some outside accountability and the fact this challenge is not a “fast as you can” kinda thing (it’s ongoing from now until the Fall) means it’s right up my alley since both my goals take some time to do or integrate into our lives.

I actually have two goals during this challenge. My first goal is time management. Things feel so hectic these days and I’m really needing a steadier rhythm to my life. I’m not only trying to get it all done, but also find the right time to do it all. I’d like to manage my time in such a way that leaves me less bewildered at where the minutes flew, as well as more available for Justin and Zeb during their day. I’ve found if I’m online before lunch, it messes up my whole day but taking care of it all in the afternoon takes away from prime family time and using it after dinner usually means I’m up too late. I still have a lot to think about with this one…

My second goal is to purge my home of unneeded or unused “stuff” and have a yard sale by the end of the challenge. I’m *not* a yard sale person – most stuff goes to Goodwill – but we are still trying to cushion our savings as much as we can. The main purpose of this goal is to SIMPLIFY our home. I’ve started thinking about all the ways in which we may be living in the coming years if Justin is laid off or we move and all of it includes a much smaller space. So I plan to go through each room of our house and filter what we really truly will use in the long-term and what we can do without – sort of a way to prepare us for the future. I also want to reorganize what we’ll be keeping to make things more efficient.

The ironic part to all this is that I already know how to do this! I had a home-based business. I was the epitome of organizational, clutter-free time management skills. So, I’m really just using this challenge as a way to tap back in and apply what I know in different ways. I’ll post what I’m doing periodically and I’ll probably redo my lists to the right to reflect all this. You can check out Two Frog Home or join the challenge by clicking the photo above. Anyone else playing along?

Good goals. I shed a lot of stuff before we left England. Although we didn’t have a ton because I’m constantly decluttering, even the remaining amount was really is freeing.

I was wodnering, what if you had a set time for internet in the morning. With a timer on not to exceed it? Or even in the evening. Or try to get X and Y done before you go online? Making you feel you’ve already acoomplished some tasks. Just a thought.

i’m seriously considering doing this challenge. it sounds great. time management has always been such a challenge for me. the thing is though i think i may need some outside help with it. i suspect it’s sort of ADD related, as much as i really HATE to attribute anything to that. i’m not interestedx in getting an official “diagnosis”, but a recent therapist suggested that it (ADD) could be the reason for some of my struggles with time management, anger management…
anyway, i don’t think i’d even know where to begin. maybe i’ll just tag slong via your posts for a while.

Sounds awesome~ I should totally do this. I am doing a LOT of decluttering to prepare for a move, but I could be more sustainable. Thanks for the inspiration!!

P.S. I DEFINITELY think Twitter sounds awesome. I am just a little afraid of myself on it LOL!

So glad to have you on board! I look forward to seeing how it all progresses for you through out the challenge.

  5. Mon, the amount of time really varies on what needs to be done. Setting a timer would work but wouldn’t allow me to finish everything. Really I think I need to just nix some of the stuff I do and prioritize the rest.

Cyndi, I hear you on the ADD thing. Have you looked into cod liver oil? Supposedly the fats and vitamins A and D in cod liver oil have some positive affects on ADD, as well as other things. I know I feel better…when I remember to take it.

  6. Devon, come to the dark side…. ;)

  7. Wow, you are a vault of awesomeness. Where do you find these interesting sites?
Doing, Not thinking is something right up my alley. I’m constantly thinking of things to do and then never doing them. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to look back on my life when I’m old and dying and wish I had DONE more of the things I thought about doing but never did. ;)

  8. KPHF, what can I say? I get around. ;) My list is not one of those I’ll regret at the end of my life but it’s something that definitely gets in the way of things I may regret at the end of my life. If that makes sense…

I’ve been stumped on which goal to pursue for the challenge, but I think you may have hit the nail on the head. If I can work on time management, meeting any of the more concrete goals will be a heck of a lot easier. Juggling the outside job, the professional writing, the garden, homemaking, and occasionally just having fun with the menfolks (and taking good enough care of myself that I don’t tip over,as I’m wont to do) is quite a goal in itself….

I signed up for this as soon after following the picture (before you had even written this post). I will need to clarify it at some point though cos it’s a bit broad and sweeping.
