Bench Monday – Not Back To School Edition:
No shoes, no school, no limits on where we can go!
For many of us parents, it’s that time of year again: uncrowded museums and theaters, awesome off-season travel deals and great prices on art supplies and notebooks.
Yup! It’s NOT Back To School Time!
Just like last year, we’re having a Twitter party for unschooling and homeschooling families not wanting to be left out of the late summer commotion.
For the next three Mondays (today, Aug 31, and Sept 6) we’re going to work at trending #notbacktoschool. Last year we had all kinds of funny updates, awesome quotes and incredible links – talk about inspiring!

walking barefoot all day at the Ren Faire seeing all the people and sites/sights and horses and pirates and men in kilts – was inspiring – especially seeing Eli shoot bow & arrow – instantly he found balance and strength while holding that – http://psbohemian.blogspot.com/2010/08/to-faire-to-faire-full-of-pirates-and.html
today i will continue the purging/decluttering/cleaning of last week as i seek to weed out the chaos and distraction from my own inner inspiration at long last.

Hooray for Inspiration Mondays!
So jealous… we are very much back to school…I spend every day that school is closed trying to show my kids the world outside of school. Every year it gets harder and harder to send them back to the box. They are learning math I could never imagine doing, they dont learn spelling like I remember, and Boy, can my kids take a test! Every day I go to work and load my bus up with children and while I adore my job and the kids, I am losing faith in education as we know it. What type of world are we really preparing them for? Jobs are outsourced and college degrees mean less and less..
So to all of you who are brave enough and courageous enough to NOT go back to school, I raise a toast! (organic green tea with honey I promise!) Know that there are some of us who wish we could do what you do.. and are working on trying to follow in your footsteps!
You don’t even have to guess what my kids doing today, cause he’s doing it with your kid!!!
PS regarding last post: He didn’t need a phone until Zeb got his!!!
Bahahaha! We have corrupted you!
I totally love that he can talk all day with A and we don’t have to worry about the bill….until, of course, he calls your home number. Doh!
Man I wish I could joing you all. It’s so tempting. We are going back to school but it’s not so hectic for once. We do the barefoot thing though-a lot! You and your family are so inspiring. We do a lot of supplementing and we learn so much from watching our kids, listening to their interests and from parents like you! Thanks so much! Peace, Angela
We’ve spend the last couple of not back to school weeks visiting an amusement park, ice-cream shops, Guitar Center (where the kids can play electric guitars and bang on the drums), parks, gaming, hanging out with other homeschoolers, second hand store shopping ect. This Friday we are going to a local children’s camp who is just going to let us homeschoolers have free range of the property, we are going zip line, swim at the beach, jump on the water trampoline, do the ropes course, canoe, kayak, use the basket ball courts, they are even going to feed us lunch, all for $5! Not back to school deals are the best!
I tweeted today just for the not back to school cause.
*much love*
