Inspiration Monday – Oregon and Grease!

Bench Monday - Oregon Hike

It’s official! The Ford is now running on veggie oil! Justin worked in the Green Eye shop all week to get that sweet, sweet fried food exhaust. Mmmmm…It feels soooo good to be off the fossil fuel grid. :)

By the way, Oregon was Uh. Maze. Ing. Green and beautiful and although Zeb needed a lot of downtime in the hotel (traveling without your home sucks) we did manage to do a beautiful hike and some long drives. I can’t wait to edit and upload the rest of the photos!

Even our drive back to Vegas has been gorgeous. The route through Reno was pretty ugly (and when they suggest snow chains they are apparently pretty serious) so we took a long detour down the Pacific Coast Highway instead. It’s been raining just enough to keep us from venturing out, but I cannot wait to head back through the San Fran area and take our time in the Redwoods next year.

Today we’re on our last stretch back to Southern Nevada. And to be honest, I’m actually looking forward to getting there. Just in time for the Christmas fun! (Not to mention my poor sciatic.)

Inspiration Monday – Two Weeks In

We’ve been here for two weeks and it’s flown by. We’ve given ourselves three months to accomplish everything and get back out on the road by January. So far, we’re slightly ahead of schedule, but seriously exhausted. (I have two speeds: Go and Crash.)

Justin’s built a tool shed for my parents, I replaced my computer screen and worked non-stop on my new site, Zeb has had sleepovers and park days, and we’ve all met new friends but El Numero Uno:

We got the new truck!

New Diesel Ford

It’s exactly what Justin wanted, and for less than we had hoped to spend but I can’t help but picture an old man in a cowboy hat, boots and a giant belt buckle every time I see it. ;)

In the two weeks we’ve been here, we’ve spent as much on gas for Justin’s Chevy truck as we did for Benny in 7 months and 8,000 miles: about $200. Waste veggie oil rocks; gasoline, not so much.

Getting a diesel truck is exciting. Justin will be ordering the kit from Green Eye to convert it over soon. I miss the smell of french fries in the morning, but even more so I miss not having a ridiculously small fuel budget and less eco-guilt. And we’re really looking forward to having a vehicle when we park the 5th wheel somewhere, especially a vehicle that will still run on veggie oil.

I’m super glad we listened to Zeb on this choice. He was right: towing a rig with a diesel truck just makes more sense for us.

We still have a lot to do in the next few weeks. Look for Benny to be listed for sale, our old truck to be listed as well, and my brand new website to be launched with the help of some major names in sustainability. And maybe somewhere in the madness I’ll even get some sleep.

Beach Monday

We’re in eastern Wisconsin now, outside Green Bay. Zeb’s Gramma has flown into town and we are all staying with her brother and his family at their house on the lake. The weather is cool and breezy and the water is warm, and the family is amazing. They have paddle boats and tubing and more fun than I can describe. I’m spending my time hooping and hooping and hooping on the sand. It’s been an amazing experience to spend so much time out of my head and in my body (without the humidity slowing me down!).

We’ll be enjoying our time here for a couple more days and I intend to spend as much of it in the sun as I can. But before I jump into my hoop again, I wanted to share a few inspiring things I’ve been loving the past week!
