Line Drying

Chores are just “not my thing”. I’d rather have heartburn than waste my precious time on housework. I have too many other good things to do, thank you very much.

That being said, there are two chores I enjoy, even look forward to. One is the instant gratification of vacuuming, with it’s relative simplicity, wasteless bagless feature and above all immediate results. Running a sweeper over trampled carpet instantly spruces up the messiest of rooms.

But the other chore I must admit I nearly love is line drying.

We’ve lived in this current home for nearly three years. Our last home was equipped with a real clothesline and in 115 degree heat and full sun, by the time we hung the last article of clothing, the first was dry. But this home is full of shade (more on that in regards to our veggies another time) and we just never thought of line drying until recently. So when we finally decided it was time to ditch the excuses, we were excited to rig our creative system into our small space. >>>

Did I mention I love to line dry? I run a load of laundry (always washing in cold water, of course) in the morning when energy costs are lowest. And before Z wakes up, I’m able to have a few quiet moments carefully clipping garments on the line.

Breezy days are my favorite, as the wind leaves things a bit less crunchy. But I enjoy hanging on any day. It’s like a moving meditation with my bare feet in the grass, listening to birds and even occasionally being graced by the presence of a hummingbird. It’s the early morning hours when the earth between my toes is cool, that I feel most Connected and At Peace. It feels like an act of love, to spend so much time and attention securing each piece of clothing.

Line drying is one of those most simplest of tasks that gives you that brief sensation that All Is Good in the world.

There is no time nor want to stress or hate when such simplicity abounds.

Look what Justin bought me!

Check out my pimp ride!

Notice the 26 inch white wall tires and chrome fenders?

And how about that sweet aqua-marine paint job with floral detail?

Oh yeah. This is how he rolls.

Um. Now I just need to learn how to ride it. Shut up.
