Green Bay Highlights

We spent several weeks in La Crosse, Wisconsin, spending time with Justin’s family. He’s posted those highlights here.

After La Crosse, we headed back across Wisconsin to a small town an hour outside Green Bay. Zeb’s Gramma flew into town and we met her at her brother’s home for five beautiful days.

Tom and Mary live on a beautiful beach lake. We happened to reach them just as the weather cooled down. It could not have been a more serene setting.

We spent the first day playing with cousins, eating yummy food (they had a plethora of yummy gluten-free foods just for me!) and enjoying the water.

The next day was much the same: tubing, boating, playing in the sand, hooping, eating, chatting.

The third day was spent in one of Justin’s favorite places: Lambeau Stadium! We toured the stadium, inside and out. By far the most memorable part was walking through the players’ tunnel. As you start to walk down the door opens, you hear insane cheering and the announcer introduces “the team”. It was hilarious and exciting to have a taste of what the players must experience as they come out on the field.

The fourth day was spent on the lake again. This time we also did a bit of birding and actually saw a American Bald Eagle! I can’t describe how beautiful and majestic this bird was; a very powerful site to see. Zeb had even seen the nest on an earlier boat ride; apparently the nests are about 5 feet in diameter!

The day to leave came too soon. I was worried that Zeb would have a difficult time saying goodbye, like he did in Nashville. But he was impressively calm. Perhaps knowing we would see her again in a few short months for the holidays helped…or maybe, as he said, he’s just getting older. Either way it’s amazing to see so much change in him these past few months. He’s just such an amazing kid. :)

More photos from our time on the lake can be found here.

Current Location: Heading into Decorah, Iowa today through Saturday!

Inspiration Monday – Would you like to join in?

Beach Monday

We’re in eastern Wisconsin now, outside Green Bay. Zeb’s Gramma has flown into town and we are all staying with her brother and his family at their house on the lake. The weather is cool and breezy and the water is warm, and the family is amazing. They have paddle boats and tubing and more fun than I can describe. I’m spending my time hooping and hooping and hooping on the sand. It’s been an amazing experience to spend so much time out of my head and in my body (without the humidity slowing me down!).

We’ll be enjoying our time here for a couple more days and I intend to spend as much of it in the sun as I can. But before I jump into my hoop again, I wanted to share a few inspiring things I’ve been loving the past week!

Would you like to join in the inspiration?

Happy Birthday Zipper!

Although Zeb’s official birthday was Thursday (just four days after Justin’s), his celebration was spread over several days with brownies on Wednesday with the Life Learners, Thursday’s special “Mama and Son” breakfast out, with dinner and a movie with Dad later in the day, and Friday was spent with his “best bud” A. and his Gramma at the “amusement park”, the AdventureDome.

Birthday with the Life Learners

Sunday was our official celebration (see why I needed to finish painting?) with all the grandparents in attendence, homemade cupcakes with homemade icing and fresh strawberries and of course, presents which included a brand new Big Kid bike complete with pegs for all the tricks he wants to learn.

One went out

This year, although celebrated several times, was a pretty low-key birthday. We’re saving up for his double-digit birthday next year. I can’t believe my baby boy is a 9 year old! (A few more photos on Flickr.)

Coco’s 8th Birthday Party

What started out as plans for an easy cake with the three of us, turned into just another way to celebrate and spend time with loved ones. Guests were invited, plans were made, decorations hung…heck, we even cleaned the house. Highlights from the day:

With 17 (seventeen!!) guests for Coco’s birthday, we had a full day of cooking homemade lasagna (which I’m happy to report I got tons of compliments on!) , spinach salad, and bread not to leave out my Mom’s yummy Caprese:Oh. Gee. Can’t leave out some Xbox playing. Even for an afternoon.
Z helped Coco open his gifts. Yes. Our guests actually brought gifts for Coco. Do we have a great family or what?

We had a great night, surrounded by family and friends. We’re so very blessed to have some of the most wonderful and understanding family members who appreciate how important this event was to Z. Although he was tired and not feeling well for part of the time, he felt very loved and had a lot of fun. Not to mention, Coco plans to share all his birthday presents, including the twenty dollar bill! That’s what best buds are for!

Ronald McDonald House

We spent our morning here, volunteering our time packing lunches for moms and dads who’s babies are sick in the hospital.

Z has been here several times with his Gramma A and was an old pro. He showed me the ropes, including going into the basement to retrieve the food items, setting up the bags, stomping and recycling empty boxes, making sandwiches, and stuffing the bags with all the goodies.

Here is one table of finished products, waiting to be delivered.

And the director was nice enough to make Z his own sandwich. That lucky kid. lol

Anyone looking to volunteer with their kids, should contact the Ronald McDonald House in Las Vegas (or your hometown). They always need volunteers and are happy to work with kids.
