Our Own Political Debate

It’s official; my child can think for himself and has formulated his own political opinions.

Me to Justin: “If Ron Paul doesn’t get this nomination, my only hope is that he goes independent. Because if he doesn’t, I may be forced to vote Democratic just to keep McHuckney out of the White House and our nation out a “100 year war”. ”

Z from the backseat: “MOM! You can’t vote Democratic. The Democrats don’t support our right to unschool!”

I did my best to explain myself, stating my beliefs on the war and how it is draining our economy and how no one will ever screw with our right to unschool; I would move out of the country before that happened.

But in the end, he could not see my logic in going against our “limited government” standards and voting Democratic simply to end the war and just shook his head at me. We did however agree we’d both be moving to the Libertarian party after this year.

I love raising a free-thinker.

WooHoo!

After months of canvassing neighborhoods, raising funds, rallying, mailing, emailing, talking to friends, family and neighbors, our hard work paid off! Congressman Ron Paul came in 2nd in Nevada!!

We have met some awesome people in this process; people we never would have come in contact with. I have joined organizations, and activists groups. We’ve decorated our vehicles, our home, our bodies. And we’ve both learned SO much.

On one hand, looking at everything I now know about politics, I’d like to stick my head back in the sand. It’s overwhelming and at times depressing. There have been many moments when I felt very cynical and nearly wanted to throw in the towel. There are many times when I look at how far we’ve come and how far we have left to travel and feel a bit hopeless for the future of things.

But the knowledge and connections I now have, the satisfaction of being a part of it all; I couldn’t trade any of that for the apathy I previously owned.

I honestly think this is the beginning of something much larger. So many people have been inspired to run for office, or to work to change those already there. And I don’t see my part in it diminishing in the years to come.

I have received messages of thanks from Ron Paul, but it is I who owe him thanks.

Thank you, Ron Paul!

Our Car Rally!!!

This is the video compilation of the footage Justin and I (and several other wonderful and dedicated Ron Paul supporters) took of our car rally last weekend. Thanks to Jim for putting it all together!!!

Here’s my favorite pic of Z from the day. He was a little camera shy but faithfully waved his sign and hollered “Ron Paul for President” at the passersby on the strip. We all had a blast and are looking forward to the next one. Wanna join us??

And for all those Ron Paul supporters out there:

Remember, remember the 5th of November!!

Doing My Part

I guess I can no longer call myself a dormant activist. I’ve joined the local mission toward change by making stencils for Ron Paul banners. And I managed only two injuries while working the Dremel. Quite proud of myself. [Top 2 Photos by Z!]

Tomorrow we will continue to show our support by participating in the Car Rally on the Strip. Can’t wait! (I’ll be sure to take pics!) The overwhelming sense of taking part in such a revolutionary movement toward change is a phenomenal and empowering feeling. Here’s just some of my inspiration:

A New Hope

The Time Has Come To Legalize Freedom

Beautiful. He has our full support – in actions and donations.

Gasp!

I found this over at Ordinary Life Magic and was shocked, horrified and appalled!

This is from the NEA, (National Education Association) who put out their resolutions, which you can read in full here. But here is their narrow-minded view on homeschooling:

B-75. Home Schooling (their pp 36, pp 45 of the pdf file)The National
Education Association believes that homeschooling programs based on parental
choice cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience.
When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state curricular
requirements, including the taking and passing of assessments to assure adequate
academic progress. Home schooling should be limited to the children of the
immediate persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure
agency, and a curriculum approved by the state department of education should be
used. The Association also believes that home-schooled students should not
participate in any extracurricular activities in the public schools. The
Association further believes that local public school systems should have the
authority to determine grade placement and/or credits earned toward graduation
for students entering or re-entering the public school setting from a home
school setting. (1988, 2006)

Isn’t it nice how in the very first paragraph they state the incompetency of parents? But then they go on to say we shouldn’t participate in public school activities (which our tax monies still pay for) and according to them our children apparently need since we cannot offer a well-rounded experience on our own. Then they go on to say the state should approve what we teach and have “authority” over their learning!

Don’t get me started on civil rights and their apparent attempt at usurping our liberties. But let me add Ron Paul’s stance on homeschooling. Here’s a snippet from that link:

“The reality, though, is that parents – not “well-meaning” politicians – know
what options are best for their kids’ education.” – Dr. Ron Paul

Organizations like the NEA make me support him more. After reading all this, work yourself into a tizzy and then pass it along. Better yet, sign this petition.
