Coaching for Organic Learning

“School is not for everyone.”

I can still hear my mom saying those words as I made the choice to leave high school. They are the same words that stayed with me as I choose to take my son out of school years later.

School is not for everyone. But like many others, you may not feel as though you have an alternative.

You do.

Unschooling, or organic learning, takes the child out of the classroom, out of the textbook and out of the box of “standardization”.

Because your child isn’t standard.

Organic learning creates an environment where real learning and authenticity flourish, where passions are cultivated and nourished and where all people thrive, not merely survive.

This is all done without pressure, without fighting, without rewards or punishments of any kind. It’s engaging, fun and interesting and it works for every family because it’s about meeting the individual needs of each family member.

Not sure? I can show you how organic learning can work for your family, too.

Unschooling Coaching

Unschooling coaching is for parents in need of support and help – not judgment from others, not fear from loved ones – as they transition out of public school or homeschooling.

You already know what isn’t working. You’re just not sure what does.

  • How will she learn without doing school?
  • Is this legal?
  • But what will we do all day?

With compassion and understanding, I can guide you through personal obstacles and challenges, answer your questions and concerns and help you release fears or doubts.
Together we can discuss:

  • The principles of organic learning
  • The legalities of leaving school
  • What it may “look like” applied to your family
  • How to know it’s “working”
  • Common concerns, such as math, college or socialization
  • What to do when your partner or spouse isn’t on board
  • Tricks to creating a rich environment
  • Techniques to avoid falling prey to fear
  • Ideas to facilitate your child’s interests
  • Tips for handling concerned family
  • How to establish a local support network and the challenges that may arise
  • Ways to handle your specific scenarios
  • And how to avoid burnout

As an unschooling coach, I can help you find the joy in learning , rediscover your family’s passion for life and embrace the principles of organic learning.

As both a grown unschooler and a mom, I can offer you two perspectives on living without school and creating strong family relationships. My experience as both the child and the parent can add invaluable insight to your journey.

What Others Are Saying

Tara is a fantastic unschooling coach! I scheduled my call with her when things were very unsettled, difficult, and scary for me and my son.

My main objective was to get a good starting point on unschooling, but I was feeling really hopeless. My son had already asked me when this was going to become fun and I didn’t have an answer for him. Or for myself. I felt alone and confused.

Coming from a standpoint of being a very by-the-books public schooler to doing something so different, I felt I needed a lot of help and Tara offered that.

She helped me navigate not only through the direct troubles, but through my feelings with it all as well.

After the call, I felt like I had some good launch points and that my feelings and the experience of unschooling wasn’t isolating. I felt like I had someone that I could lean on for help and encouragement, which throughout the call is what I realized I needed the most. I was accepted and understood and heard and that was priceless during my time of uncertainty.

I would totally recommend this to anyone else who is considering unschooling.

The coaching is a perfect companion to seeking out information through her blog and (six months later) I just haven’t felt alone and as unsure since!

- Shannon, mama to 2 – CO

I first stumbled on The Organic Sister while surfing for unschooling advice and coaching. I felt strongly that I found the right person while reading Whole Life Unschooling: It’s for more than just kids.

After one coaching session and a hand-full of emails I can confidently say that I have found my guide on this unschooling journey. Informative, intuitive and inspiring. I can’t recommend Tara enough.

- Victoria, mama to 4 – FL

I am a mother of 4 and a former elementary school teacher. I am unlearning so much and I am grateful for other mothers who can offer guidance and support as I unschool and relearn joy with my children.

Thank you for your contribution to my journey.
